The William Thornton Foundation

One of our corporate values is to “Think Solution for our Community” and we do this based on three guiding principles:

(a)    Public Policy Reform
(b)   Sustainable Development of Community Infrastructure
(c)    Investing in People

The inspiration is drawn from the firm’s namesake, William Thornton, who was born in a Quaker community in the British Virgin Islands on 20 May 1759 to become an heir to sugar plantations but from those humble beginnings became the first Architect of the Capitol in the United States after winning a competition to design the U.S. Capitol Building and also to become the first Superintendent of the U.S. Patent Office and led various abolitionist efforts in the United States including an unsuccessful attempt to lead freed Black Americans to a British settlement in Sierra Leone. Although he later became a citizen of the United States of America, his humble beginnings in the British Virgin Islands and his lasting legacy not only for the United States, but for the world serves as the inspiration for the establishment of The William Thornton Foundation to make a lasting impact in the communities in which we do business. As such we hope to be a voice for change as well as the hands that mold the clay of progress. We are committed to dedicating a portion of our income each year to the support of The William Thornton Foundation and the programs it undertakes.

Our Olympic Dream

The first initiative of The William Thornton Foundation has been to focus our support on the BVI Olympic Committee. We believe in supporting the Olympic Movement and the affiliated law firm serves as the Official Legal Services Provider to the BVI Olympic Committee. Partnering with the BVI Olympic Committee, we aim to ensure that BVI athletes receive the necessary support to perform at their best on the Road to London 2012 and beyond.

For more information about the BVI Olympic Committee, you can visit their website (www.bviolympics.org).
